The Mandalay Student Fund

was set up by John Hayward and Penny Chalmers following a visit to Burma in 2004. The Fund currently provides financial support for 15 university students from poor families in Mandalay, the second largest city in Burma.

All students have graduated from the Phaung Daw Oo Monastic Education High School, which provides free schooling for nearly 7,000 pupils, as well as a health clinic for the local community. The school distributes the funding direct to the students.

Each student is matched to a donor in the UK,
with whom they can regularly exchange emails.

The Colour of Burma

You can help the Mandalay Student Fund by buying a photograph of this beautiful country, mounted and framed. The Colour of Burma is an exhibition of photographs recently shown at the Thai Corner Cafe in South East London. Although this show has now closed, photos can also be ordered through this website. Please click on "Exhibition" to find out more.
